The perception of fashion in Uzbekistan is quite different. It depends completely on a range of clothes available in its local bazaars. As the Uzbek cities, including the capital city of Tashkent, have almost no boutiques and shops selling modern clothes, the choice of those who want to buy high quality clothes is very limited.

Even clothes manufactured in Turkey are so rare and expensive that local merchants pronounce sacramental words like “made in Turkey!” to attract buyers.

In women’s fashion, there is one accessory that is often completely overlooked, yet can offer endless possibilities for enhancing the look of your wardrobe. That accessory, of course, is the scarf. Scarves have been a part of women’s fashion for millennia, with representations of fringed rectangles of fabric found in Chinese sculpture dating as far back as 1000 b. c.
In the last half-century, scarf-wear has evoked an air of Hollywood-style glamour, and sophisticated elegance. Just picture such icons as Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly arriving for lunch at the Brown Derby, their beauty barely disguised by silk scarves and sunglasses, looking amazingly glamorous.

Scarf Styles:
Throughout history, scarves have been made from a variety of fabrics
- from heavy wool knits to fine silk weaves, patterned or plain - each style appropriate to its setting or the fashion of the period. Today, fashion tying scarves are commonly made from silk, rayon or acetate, which offer a light weight, fluid movement, strength, and a shimmering finish. Other common fabrics for tying scarves are cotton and wool, which make for a slightly heavier scarf, with structure and often textured finishes.
Scarves come in many sizes and shapes, and many are designed for specific uses. There are bandanas and kerchiefs which are smaller in size (usually 14-16 inches [35-40 cm] on a side), to large shawl-like scarves (which can be up to 48 inches [120 cm] on a side). There are square scarves, rectangular (or oblong) scarves, and triangular scarves. Some scarves have hemmed edges, fringed edges, and fused edges. They can be batik dyed, tie-dyed, silk-screened, have woven patterns, or solid colors. In short, the possibilities are endless.

Wearing Scarves:
Scarves can be worn in a variety of ways: as head coverings, shawls, accent pieces, belts, and even as garments. They are truly versatile and can add flair to a style, or be used as a subtle accent. They can be tied, pinned with a piece of jewelry, or secured with specially designed accents. Below are some examples of ways to wear scarves to accentuate your look, the shape of scarf you will need and how to secure them.

Scarves as Headwear
Covering the head is one of the traditional purposes for which scarves have been used. Some cultures’ mores insist that women wear scarves to cover their head as a matter of propriety, and in areas of the world where the climate is cold, women use scarves to protect their heads against the elements. Our concern here, however, is the use of scarves in fashion.
The scarf is still used to protect the head/hairstyle, but it is just as important to look good in the process. Scarves have also gained popularity (because of their functionality) among female cancer patients who have experienced hair-loss as a result of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.

Dear Lindsay,
For some time you have been top of my fantasy celebrity house party guestlist and I have stood up for you on many occasions despite your slightly Britney-esque behaviour. I always argue that you’re just having a lot of fun, and at least you (usually) have a cool wardrobe. However, after seeing this photo I might have to demote you slightly. I still maintain that you would be a great deal of fun and would truly get the party started but if you rocked up in these socks, I’m not sure I could let you in. It’s a great trend but one that should be worn with care. Take note of how it was worn on the catwalk at Prada; midi length skirt and heels. Never, EVER attempt this trend with Havaianas. Also Lilo, where is your skirt? That’s not a dress, it’s a top! Did you forget your jeans? I think that the people of LA might have to sit out of this winter trend.
Love ya!

jodhpurs.jpg

Way back in September when it was still relatively warm and we were still excited about London Fashion Week we reviewed the latest crazy trend, jodhpurs. The US High Street retailer GAP was the first store to get in on it following them first featuring on the catwalks at Balenciaga. Now, three months later Topshop has joined the (passing) bandwagon.

Our rundowns of the latest looks to hit Primark are always big news for Catwalk Queen, so I’m glad to be able to bring you some looks from their Spring / Summer range. A lot of these pieces are already in stores (I picked up the bird print dress last night) with some to come in early Feb. There’s a real nautical theme - always big news in Spring - with pieces starting at only a couple of quid. Sharpen those elbows now…

jacinth high waist all saints trousers.jpgPouchy, bloomery-type trousers might not seem like the most flattering garment especially for those who are large of derriere but teamed with a pair of heels and a fitted top they can look really hot.

A good place to start with this trend would be All Saints’ Jacinth trousers which are a total bargain! They’re reduced from £110 to a criminally cheap £33 so you can dip your toe into the bloomery trouser trend without dipping into your savings.

There are such a wide range of floral prints about if you go for this trend you’ll be spoilt for choice. The key with making florals feel fresh is to mix and match and go for something that feels individual rather than a straightforward girly, matchy matchy outfit.
Team florals with florals, other prints or bright tights, anything that will add a bit of interest to the ensemble. Whatever you do steer clear of the faux-tan shiny tights and strappy sandals or you’ll look like you’re on your way to a wedding!  See after the jump for more pics and full product details.
