My boyfriend and I have been getting more and more into photography lately, and we’re on the verge of buying a $1200 Nikon D70S and all the other goodies. So, like the good little bag mistress I am, I’ve been keeping an eye out for a stylish bag that I could carry it in (like my laptop, I would despise carrying the new camera around in a black nylon bag from Best Buy). The Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Field Bag looks like it would be perfect. It’s got all the little outside pockets for lenses and stuff, and just reminds me of what someone in the 1940s would have carried their equipment in. Made of beautiful linen and luscious croc-embossed leather, the Ralph Lauren Linen Shoulder Bag reminds us that spring is here and in-color. In green, turquoise and black, the bag closes with a top zip and has outside front and back slip pockets. The dimensions of the purse are 13 x 6 x 3.5 inches and with its 7-inch strap drop, the bag should fit perfectly underneath your arm. New from Dior’s Pink Collection is the Girly Glamour Camera Bag that was inspired by vintage camera bags. In pink and white Dior logo fabric with patent leather trim, the bag is accented in white flowers and butterfly detail. The textile shoulder strap lengthens from 10.6 up to 19.75 inches and the Camera Bag is lined in pink satin. Measuring 9 x 7.8 x 2.75 inches, the Dior Girly Glamour Camera Bag sells for $760.

At first glance I thought it was just another cute, springy, green tote with leather detail, but wait… Are those windows and shutters I see on the front of this bag? And is that a front door? And, looking even closer it appears there’s a small dog down there and…hold on…yep, that’s definitely a bicycle. I like to think that I’m very open-minded when it comes to purses but this is ridiculous. Maybe if it were $14.95 instead of $1,495 I could at least appreciate it for what it was but even then I’m not sure. The 25th Anniversary House Bag from Henry Cuir is nuts people. Just plain nuts. If you want a house, get a house. If you want a purse, get a purse. And if you’re confused about the difference between the two, get a bigger brain.

The Gancini Shoulder Bag from Salvatore Ferragamo has all the elements to be this years next “It” bag. With its turquoise (shown right) or lime goatskin exterior, the purse features signature Gancini silver hardware. Ferragamo’s Shoulder Bag comes complete with dual shoulder straps and the buckled side-straps compliment the slouchy, gathered body of the bag perfectly. Measuring a huge 10 x 20 x 2 inches, the bag sells for $1080.

Just as I recently listed my “It” bags for the season, USA Today has also named theirs. Among other big designer bags, Gucci’s Small Studded Flap Bag unsurprisingly found its way onto the list. The purse comes in many variations, with colors ranging from cranberry to olive and materials from velvet to crocodile leather. With its signature web strap, the flap bag is covered in rivets and studs. Of all the Gucci Small Flap Bags, the cranberry velvet bag shown right is my favorite. It comes complete with brown crocodile trim and gold hardware. Prices start at $890 for the beige and black fabric bags, while the velvet cranberry sells for $3790.

Just because the waiting list for the Chloe Paddington is as long as my handbag-wish-list doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of all the other great Chloe bags available to you. The Covent Garden East West Bag in chocolate brown leather shows both an eloquent and expressive side of Chloe and I love it. The doctor bag features dual, brass-riveted straps and a brass “Chloe” inscribed lock. Lined in canvas, the Covent bag sells for $1190 and measures 32 x 17 x 14 cm

So it hit me today when I was at the mall that there is a whole other side of handbags that I have totally been neglecting. Evidently, when I wasn’t looking, little girls began carrying purses. Not that I am complaining or anything, as a matter of fact nothing makes me happier than to see 10 year olds toting around floral clutches and such. One bag that I find extremely intriguing is the Wicker Basket Purse from Gymboree. The $16 white bag closes with two flower ties and if you’re lucky, your third grader will start a long, successful relationship with purses from this day forward. In all seriousness, handbags are kind of like sex. It’s never too early to start talking to your kids about it.
