The stigma attached to men carrying handbags is a thing of the past. The Europa Field Bag is both trendy and functional enough for both female and male use. The bag is made of vintage leather and comes in brown and black. Its padded body protects your cell phone, PDA, CDs and is even roomy enough for a large camera. Great for traveling or everyday use, the Field Bag measures 10.5 x 8 x 4.25 inches and costs $155.
I’ve been getting a few emails implying that I should do more man-purses, so here you go. The Tumi Flight Bag is made with Fusion Z nylon and has nappa leather trim. The 11 x 4 x 12 inch bag has an adjustable strap and lots of neat compartments for all your guy stuff. Tumi is offering the Flight Bag exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue for $225. To all the women: Turn your man into a Metrosexual and buy him this bag. Bulging pockets are so out. To all the men: Quit reading purse blogs. Seriously. (I’m kidding boys. I’m happy to have any readers I can get. I’ll take women, men, and might even make special allowances for those weird literate monkeys.)
I’ve been trying to give something for all two of my guy readers to read so here’s another man-bag. The Gravis Mistro bag for men is much less expensive then the previous man-bags I’ve covered in the past, so it is perfect for all of you cost-aware metrosexuals out there. The $20 bag features an adjustable shoulder strap, pull down front pocket with inside organizer and exterior cell phone and document pockets. The side of the Mistro has a mesh pocket with pen sleeves and the front has a zipper accessory slot. Maybe it’s just me, but I love nothing more than a man who knows how and where to carry his stuff.
I’d be so ticked if I were a guy. Not only for obvious reasons, but also because there’s just not a lot of options in the man-handbag department yet. Jack Spade is trying to help change that with the Green Street Canvas Day Bag. The man bag has a Velcro closure, and pockets for your cell phone and other tech tools. The Day Bag also includes a port for your headphones and comes in army, navy and black. For $90, this is a great place to start for all the guys out there who want to carry a bag but don’t feel quite ready to go all the way, so to speak. The Greene Street Collection is subtle and kind of looks like it holds a laptop. This gives you an opportunity to work your way up to carrying a full-blown man-bag. Hey, baby steps will get you there too.
It’s hard for me to give all the details because they don’t sell their bags online, but I can tell you for sure that Lacoste has a man-purse situation going on at their site that my guy-readers should address immediately. I saw at least 10 different styles including the Casual Shoulder Bag shown to the right. Each bag comes in different colors and includes a list of places the bag can be purchased from. I have searched online for some of these bags but so far am coming up short. If you really want one, you may actually have to get off your computer and drive to a retailer that carries the brand. Considering Lacoste isn’t providing pricing for the bags on their site, I will have to assume that we aren’t talking J.C. Penny bargains here but luckily
Coach’s newest version of their men’s map bag is thoughtfully constructed with durable nylon. Shown here in gunmetal/steel, the Varick Small Mapbag has a front pouch beneath the flap with many functional pockets inside. An open and zip pocket can be found on the outside of the bag and the weather-resistant fabric is trimmed in leather. Measuring 13 x 13 x 4 1/2 inches, the Varick Nylon Mapbag could easily be carried as a day-bag, or even hold your 12 inch PowerBook if you like. Coach sells the man-bag for $198.
Here’s a great buy for both guys and girls — the Utility Tiny Shoulder bag from Triple 5 Soul. Made of calvary twill fabric, the north/south shoulder bag has a cross body shoulder strap, a back mesh pocket and lots of pockets inside for keeping your gadgets in order. The pouch shown on the front of the bag is made especially to hold an iPod and even has grommets for earphones. The unisex Triple 5 Soul Utility Tiny Shoulder bag is $60 at Zappos.
If it weren’t for the changing pad and diaper pouch you’d never know that this was a diaper bag and not another trendy men’s day-bag. Diaper Dudes Men’s Diaper Bag has a padded shoulder strap that’s conveniently worn across the chest, and a multi-pocketed front flap cover. Scotch guard protects this durable, brown bag that measures 14 x 16 inches. Diaper Dudes Men’s Diaper Bag sells for $110 at Neiman Marcus.
Here’s one for the boys (or men, whatever you like to call yourselves). Made with both canvas and leather, Ro’s Steve II Messenger Bag features a nifty zipper-split front flap and a full bottom zip that’s expandable. Underneath the front flap you’ll find multiple pockets and places for pens while the interior of the bag sports various open pockets for larger items. The messenger from Ro is available for pre-order at Saks and measures 12 x 13 x 3 inches. It’ll set you back $205.

I’ve been told that the men are feeling a little neglected lately, so I decided to give them a look at Prada’s newest messenger bag. Although I’m against killing Bambi, I’ll have to admit the Cervo Messenger Bag by Prada is undoubtedly appealing and very pleasing to the eye. In true Prada fashion, this very sophisticated messenger bag, made with ultra soft deerskin leather features outside double clips accented in gold hardware. It secures with a snap and buckle closure, and features a front compartment. Measuring 13.4×11x4.5, this outrageously expensive bag sells for $1,680 and you can pre-order it through Saks.
