As I lie back in the chair, the consultant squints at my face and runs a manicured finger over my skin.
‘You already have some frown lines developing,’ she says with an affected sigh.
‘I think it would be fine to proceed with Botox. Better to prevent than cure. Think about it.’

Ella Samoles-Little: The 18-year-old was offered Botox injections at leading cosmetic clinics
Just an hour earlier, I’d been thinking my skin was pretty good. Apart from the odd spot, I had few problems and counted myself lucky.
But when I ask the consultant at cosmetic clinic Sk:n in Harley Street what she would recommend to keep my skin in the best condition, it seems Botox is just for starters.
Although Sk:n has put my face under a screen to check for sun damage (the consultant reports, with surprise, that there is none), she seems determined to find something.
‘The skin around your eyes is rather dry,’ she adds. I blink uncomfortably.
‘I suggest an eye cream - £60,’ she says. ‘And you know you have open pores - they could do with two or three face peels.’
The consultant is in full sales flow and seems oblivious to my growing discomfort as she picks up on one perceived flaw after another.
‘You do also have some thread veins,’ she continues, ‘only tiny ones on your cheeks, but you don’t want them to grow larger - we could sort those out.’
‘For how much?’ I ask.
‘£75 for each of the face peels,’ she replies, consulting her price list, ‘and £119 each for two laser treatments for the thread veins.’
That’s almost £500 - and she hasn’t even included the Botox.
When I set out to discover exactly what treatments - and at what cost - cosmetic and beauty clinics would give to an 18-year-old, I didn’t expect such a focused attempt to make me spend money.

In the U.S. Botox injections have been linked with deaths caused by severe allergic reactions (file picture)
At least when I approached the clinic later and told them who I was, they admitted: ‘We are extremely disappointed that a nurse or a therapist made this recommendation and we agree that this is a serious issue.
‘Irrespective of any recommendation made, the client would have to see one of our doctors before Botox could be administered. Read the rest of this entry »

Since men’s activity spectrum is wide, they get exposed to the sun, wind and pollution to a great extent. The skin care needs of men do differ from those of women to some extent, but these differences are not so great.
The skin of men is naturally oilier with larger pores and is thicker and rougher with copious hair growth. So an appropriate skin care routine is needed for men. To begin with, men should realize that proper skin care isn’t going to occupy hours of their busy day. A few minutes a day is all that is necessary.
Men skin care products tend to be lighter and less complicated chemically, and are designed to promote maximum soothing and healing of freshly shaved skin. Use of the products depends on one’s age. As one gets older, the skin tends to dry up, mild cleansers with more moisturising effect are to be used. Use an effective sunscreen regularly. For the face, use a face wash depending on your skin type.
Men’s skin care usually involves using a cleanser, shaving cream, conditioner, a toner, and a moisturizer. Read the rest of this entry »

Once nails have dried, repeat the process with a second coat of the same nail polish.
Apply a top coat to ensure that color will last longer.
We all know that aging is inevitable. It’s just a fact of life. To quote Trudy, the salon owner and ‘glamor technician’ from Steel Magnolias, “Time marches on, honey. And sooner or later, you realize it’s marching across your face.”
But what really causes aging? And how much can we actually do about
slowing the aging process? These questions have been asked for as long anybody can possibly remember and then some. Anti-aging and Cosmetic sciences have focused on this issue and made some remarkable strides, both in learning about the causes of aging and in devising ways to slow its progress.
Causes of Aging:
All aging in the body can be categorized into one of two distinct types of aging: Intrinsic Aging, caused by genetic programming, and Extrinsic Aging, caused by environmental factors. These two types of aging can often work in combination to result in premature aging. Read the rest of this entry »
Oily skin is an offshoot of hormonal imbalances and increased activity of the sebaceous glands. Teenagers are often plagued with this sort of problem and heat and humidity can exacerbate it. As a consequence of excess oil being produced, the skin actually shines and the pores enlarge. Thus the skin appears rough and coarse. So the underlying factor is to remove this excess oil. Washing with soap and hot water at least 3 times a day is an absolute must. Try not to clog the pores with soap. Massage the face lightly using an upward and circular motion. Antibacterial cleansing lotions or medicated soaps are much better than harsh soaps. Non-greasy Cleansers and toners are meant to remove the excess oil, but sadly the oil glands refuse to be subdued, they trigger the oil glands to produce more oil. Oily skin care is a little more strenuous than care for normal skin. Read the rest of this entry »

10 Minutes a Day, keeps those wrinkles at away
Our skin like other body parts is not invincible, when it comes to being susceptible to damage. As it is necessary to get monthly haircuts and weekly manicures as part of your grooming regime it should also be a necessity and not a luxury to take care of the most important organ of your body, the skin. And the time to start doing that is now.
Too young to care.
It may seem unimportant to contemplate doing anything about your complexions before reaching your thirties. However it is in our twenties that the effects of aging begin to be visible in our complexion. As we mature, biochemical changes occur in elastin and collagen, the connective tissues that give skin it’s firmness and elasticity. Genetics also play a part in this, which is why these changes occur at different times in different people.
As skin becomes less elastic, it also becomes drier, and the fat padding begins to disappear. This causes the skin to sag and look less supple. Ultimately wrinkles will appear. Then one day, after glancing in the mirror you suddenly notice those crows feet creeping in around the corners of your immaculately decorated eyelids, or you notice that your lip potions have sadly waded into the spider like crevices above the lips. It is normally then, when decisions are made to go out and get a miracle cream or maybe a facial.
Aging can be slowed down, and you can do your part to promote a younger complexion even as you mature. All it takes is a little TLC, but start NOW! The sooner you start to nurture your skin the more chance you have of a age-less complexion. All it takes is a short monthly visit to a skin care specialist, or a few minutes a day, taking care of your skin at home. Read the rest of this entry »
